It’s why Dr. Shawn Baker says, “The best diet for the environment is the one that keeps you out of the hospital!”
The US healthcare system alone generates five times more greenhouse gasses (GHG) than animal agriculture does. That wasn’t a typo: the healthcare sector adds significantly to air pollution, including acid rain, greenhouse gas emissions, smog formation and more. Naturally, the conversation will then lean towards avoiding protein and eating more plant-based foods. The problem with this narrative is that it’s only half the story: plant-derived foods can stimulate mTOR just like animal foods can. This new video may clear up the confusion and help you better understand the loads of confusion about mTOR, protein, cancer and other diseases. P.S. This test analyses methylation patterns on more than 2,000 gene regions. So, while we’re all aging at the same chronological time, our biological age is variable based upon our diets and lifestyles. In fact, Dr. Horvath recently published data showing how low-dose growth hormone DHEA combined with berberine can actually slow down biological aging. Here’s the video review and link to the study: We discuss more about: -Age-associated inflammation or “inflammaging” (chronic, low-grade inflammation) as the reason why you age Personally, I’ve been a huge fan of both DHEA and berberine (which functions similarly to metformin) for a long time. |

Key Timestamps: 04:38 Some manufacturers are deceptive and substitute ingredients. 05:57 European materials have more active ingredient. Chinese ingredients tend to have less active ingredient and more water. 06:55 Moisture and heat accelerate degradation. Keep the desiccant in your supplement bottle. 07:33 New packaging is being designed that builds the desiccant into the plastic of the bottle/vial. 09:53 Humidity and temperature control are key in manufacturing quality. 10:47 There are about 1,000 supplement manufacturers in the US and the number seems to double every year. 11:40 The FDA is shutting down small garage style shops with the 483 inspections. 13:25 Finished product testing, does not include every ingredient on an ongoing basis. 16:40 FDA requires that identification testing and content/quality testing be done on any new component coming into the manufacturing facility. It is also required to do a full assay of the product at least 3 lots/year. 20:30 Residual solvents used in the extraction process of herbs are detected in testing. 21:06 Magnesium stearate is used to reduce friction and heat in manufacturing. Magnesium stearate is the most common fatty acid on the planet. 21.38 Natural fat is used to lubricate high speed machines. Friction must be reduced. 23:46 Controlling humidity for an entire facility adds about $50,000 per month to the cost of production. 27:25 The alu alu blister packs are aluminum with nitrogen shot between the layers. There is no air or moisture with the product, which is sealed away from the aluminum by plastic. 28:49 HDPE bottles are better than a box, but not much. Glass is good, but humid air is introduced when the lid is removed. 31:15 If you have a product that is clumping or shrinking in a capsule, moisture has invaded and likely less than label claim in potency. 34:36 The shelf life for supplements is 2 years from manufacture. With probiotics or unstable products, shelf life is about 18 months to 2 years. Overage is added to compensate for die off. 36:06 MCT oil powder will have less fat than MCT oil. 38:44 Daniel makes his own pre and post-workout supplement powders fresh every day. He uses nootropics and caffeine to pre-workout. 43:27 Daniel has been low carb for about 3 years. He has more energy for CrossFit and endurance activities. |

About Today’s Show Fasted- vs. fed-state exercise is a controversial topic amongst fitness and weight loss experts nowadays. Check out the show notes: https://highintensityhealth.com/263 Many folks find that exercising in a fasted state enhances fat loss and accelerates body composition changes. You know, the ketone-promoting medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) fats that you likely used in your coffee this morning. However, there’s another group in the MCT family that we should start paying closer attention to: monocarboxylate transporters. Without these specialized transporters, exercise, fasting and the ketogenic diet would be, well, nearly impossible. Today we discuss the specific ways we can “increase” the activity of these special cellular MCT transporters—potentially enhancing ketone use by our muscles, heart and brain. This information may help you learn new ways to enhance the health benefits of fasting and make going keto easier. And much of our metabolic rate and fat-burning potential depends on muscle. Thus, strategies that can prevent age-related muscle loss are hot topics among scientists nowadays. In fact, new research suggests that ketones have “anti-catabolic” effects in muscle—meaning: they may slow muscle loss. This is attractive to us as we age, but it’s also important to consider if/when one has an elective procedure—say surgery—or has to travel or be sedentary. Here’s a quick breakdown of the study and key takeaways: All the best, Mike P.S.
